Change is around the corner for NGU

Grace Myers, Managing Editor

By now, you may have heard the rumors that students should expect to see changes in the structure of their class schedule within the upcoming semesters. Well, those rumors are true.

Nathan Finn, provost and dean of university faculty at NGU, has confirmed that the school is introducing a revised course schedule grid for the 2022-2023 academic year.

“Faculty are currently working to adjust their course offerings to the new schedule,” said Finn. “The schedule will be made public to students when registration opens for fall classes.”

NGU has been considering changing the schedule for years. Finn noted it is healthy for an institution to revisit its schedule every few years and make adjustments as needed. “This schedule was designed to give students greater flexibility and a bit more breathing room during the week,” he said.

A team that included leaders from the office of student services and the office of academic administration developed the new schedule. They also received feedback from campus ministries and student engagement, the council of deans and the athletics department.

The team wanted to provide students with a wide variety of time slots so that there are more opportunities to take classes in the afternoon and evenings. The new schedule will also allow for more time to study and rest but still be involved in extracurricular activities. But, while there are changes, it is not a radically new schedule. Most of the new schedule looks similar to the current one.

“While there is no perfect schedule, we believe this is a good one,” said Finn. “The University remains committed to constant improvement, so as needed we will continue to refine the schedule beyond next year in order to best serve our students.”

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
