Renovation Pending: Admin may be getting a face lift

Listen up, crusaders: our very own administration building may be getting a special update coming soon. The renovation planning process has already begun, but since it’s in the early stages, nothing is set in stone.
The administration building, also called the Donnan Administration Building, has been a staple structure on North Greenville’s campus for decades. Many students partake in classes located in the administration building. The president’s office is even located in this building as well.
As stated before, the renovation process is still in the planning phase, but it is still exciting news. Billy Watson, senior associate vice president for Tigerville operations, said, “The Admin Building has not been renovated since the early 1970’s.”
Watson continued, “The renovation will give the building a whole new look that will allow the space to be used more effectively to meet today’s needs.” So, NGU students and faculty will get to see the administration building in a new and improved way.
Executive Vice President and head of the renovation project, Rich Grimm, gives some insight on the process. Grimm shared what he’s most excited about for the project when he said, “Providing a new home for the College of Business and Entrepreneurship, upgraded classrooms with technology for students, and the student lounge area will be wonderful features of the renovation.”
He also provided information regarding the progress on the renovation:
- The Board of Trustees has approved phase one of the project, which includes working on the design and initial fundraising activities.
- If all goes as planned, we should begin renovations at the conclusion of this semester. The building would then reopen in the 2023-24 academic year.
Grimm added, “We believe the project will honor the legacy and history of the building, while providing a contemporary and current space for the NGU community.”
North Greenville students also seem to be excited and express what they hope to see with the new renovation. Rylee Merrill, education major, said, “If they update and renovate Admin, I hope they renovate the bathrooms. It is always cold in temperature, and they are small in size. So, bigger bathrooms that have more heat would be great.”
Michael Murray, history major, explains his hopes of the renovation by saying, “I hope they add a common area similar to the Alpha Psi Omega, or APO, room in the School of Theatre. The APO has comfortable seating, a big table for students to work and a TV to use.” Places for students to study or hangout are great for any building on campus.
Renovation is always an exciting process. It can enhance the already-existing structure to have longer usage. So NGU fam, are you excited about the administration building renovation?
