What NOT to get your Valentine’s Day Partner

What NOT to get your Valentine’s Day Partner

Seth Atkins, Visual Arts Editor

Valentine’s Day came faster than ever this year. This holiday is all about going the extra mile for that special someone in your life.

For many years, there have been some of the sweetest gifts given on Valentine’s Day. Those can include a beautiful bouquet of flowers, tasty chocolates, big stuffed animals and even stylish jewelry items. But there are those items that you do NOT want to get for your special somebody.

No worries NGU students, we are here to help you see some products that you should stay away from putting in your gift basket on Valentine’s Day.

Product One: A Toy Phone
A toy phone is just not something you want to give your partner. The toy does not operate like a real cellphone. Plus, your partner may be wishing for a new cell phone and getting them this is not the right call. (Ha ha, get it?)
Product Two: Lysol
Some of the perfect gifts for Valentine’s Day are those that smell good: warm candles, essential oils and even colognes/perfumes. But Lysol is not the enhancing product you want to grab off the shelf for your partner. On the label it states that the spray kills 99% of viruses and bacteria, and it says that it is used to eliminate odors. If this ends up as part of your Valentine’s gift, you’re basically calling your special someone’s dorm smelly, and saying they hold a lot of germs. How romantic.
Product Three: Xtreme Deodorant
As stated before, smell-good products are a good option for Valentine’s Day gifts. But this 72-hour XTREME deodorant brand for men is not the way to go. So, let’s really think about this: the deodorant is not meant to be the “let’s smell fresh and manly” type of smell. This stuff is to get the stinky odor out, so not a romantic idea to get your partner this. I would save getting the deodorant for another time. Did I mention that this product comes in a pack of two? That’s saying your partner is double stinky.
Product Four: Hair Removal Cream
I don’t think I need to go into detail about why this product is not romantic at all. It’s on the border of just being mean.
Product Five: Extra Gum
Gum is a good everyday product, but this long-lasting flavored gum isn’t one to get for Valentine’s Day. In hindsight, you would be telling your partner that his or her breath stinks and that it stinks all the time, because there are 35 gum sticks in this packet. You could also add that with the “Extra” brand name, you could be sending a message that your partner is being extra.
Product Six: Deep Renewal for Younger Lips
This product doesn’t require a lot of explanation. Let’s just say your partner may become self-conscious about his or her lips for the rest of your relationship. So, this is not a smooth move for a gift.
Product Seven: Just for Men
Gray hair is something that most people experience in their lifetime. Getting this as a gift isn’t the way to go. If a male has some gray hair, I’m sure he knows about it. Some may not even want to get rid of it, and others will get rid of it on their own. Plus, there is nothing wrong with the “salt and pepper” look.
Product Eight: Wilted or Dead Flowers
Flowers are always a nice gift. They are pretty, they smell nice and they’re just a classic. But give your date an arrangement of dead or wilted flowers, and you may be having a party of one for your Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is a fun holiday for couples everywhere. The products above are not shown to discredit them in any way, it’s just that they may not be the perfect gift for your valentine this year. All in all, relationships are important, and we are called to love one another every day of the year. Have fun shopping, Crusaders!
