NGU plans trip to Costa Rica Spring of 2022

One aspect of education is immersion, or experiencing culture from all sides. The goal of the Christian is to carry the gospel to all nations and people. North Greenville plans to foster a trip that accomplishes both the immersion style of learning and international missions in the upcoming spring of 2022 Costa Rica trip.

In the spring of 2022, NGU is sending a group of students to Costa Rica as a part of an academic and mission experience in partnership with The Spanish Language Institute. The trip is designed to develop students’ abilities in sharing the gospel, as well as speaking spanish.

The trip is centered around linguistics, which is the study of language. It can be used by sharing the gospel in another language, translating or even making a Bible for a group that doesn’t have a written language. Linguistics probably is not something a lot of us think about often, but it can be life-changing if you are willing to use it. This trip to Costa Rica is concentrated on the Spanish language, which students will be using and learning daily.

The tentative dates for the trip are May 1-28, 2022, and the team is actively trying to get the best deal they can on flights. The trip is expected cost around $3,000, which includes airfare, food, lodging and Spanish classes at The Spanish Language Institute. Students are welcome to fundraise and invite family, friends and churches to help support them.

During the 28 days abroad, students will be hosted by a Spanish-speaking family and will be staying near the capital of Costa Rica: San Jose. They will provide you with a room, three meals each day and a place to wash your clothes. The goal is to make you feel at home there so you can share your life with the people around you.

While students are in Costa Rica, they will be taking a Spanish language class in the morning, then helping with service and missions projects throughout the rest of the day. Local churches will have tasks for the students to do alongside church on Sundays.

The trip schedule includes two free weekends for students and faculty to sight-see individually, should they wish to see the beautiful country of Costa Rica.

When asked about her thoughts on the trip, one student replied, “I can’t wait to see what the trip will bring. There are so many people that need to hear the gospel across the globe. If I can help them through my gift of language, then I  am going to try. Even though it does scare me to leave for multiple weeks, I know that I am advancing the Lord’s kingdom.”

For updates, check the NGU website as well as your student emails. An opportunity like this can be rare after graduation, so students are encouraged to see what God can do in their life this spring in Costa Rica.
