The Inside Scoop on Crusader Bucks

The Inside Scoop on Crusader Bucks

Alyssa Waller, Staff Writer

With the end of the semester approaching, there are crusader bucks that need to be spent if they have not been spent already. Every semester, students at North Greenville University get a campus currency called crusader bucks that allow students to spend points in the dining hall, Chick-fil-A, Papa Johns and the General Store.

The amount differs between residents and commuters, though students have the opportunity to increase the amount connected to their accounts. NGU and Aramark work out how many crusader bucks will be the baseline for commuters and residents each semester.

Before Chick-fil-A came onto campus, they had to guarantee there would be revenue. The only ways the school could guarantee revenue were by making sure students could use meal swipes there and that there was enough of a declining balance pool, which is another term for crusader bucks.

Aramark General Manager, Helen Cox said, “Without a certain revenue guaranteed, a Chick-fil-A won’t come to campus.”

How many crusader bucks the dining hall, Chick-fil-A, Papa Johns and the General Store bring in vary week to week. A lot of it depends on the weather. For example, if it is raining, people probably won’t go down to Papa Johns or the General Store.

In September in 2021, Chick-fil-A brought in $38,963 crusader bucks. Meanwhile, Papa Johns and the General Store brought in $43,667.35. Lastly, Todd Dining Hall brought in $4,023.41.

Kai McAnally, a sophomore education major, said she spends her crusader bucks at the General Store. McAnally added, “I like the variety of the General Store.”

Makena Witt, a junior interdisciplinary major, said she spends her crusader bucks at Papa Johns. When asked about why she spends them at Papa Johns, she said, “Pizza and ice cream.”

Maria Bump, a business major, said she spends her crusader bucks mostly at Chick-fil-A and Papa Johns. Bump said, “If I don’t want the cafe and don’t want to pay extra money. A word I guess convince.”
