Bridging the gap between the past and the present

Kayleigh Harrill, Staff Photographer

November is known as Historic Bridge Awareness Month, and the point of this is to raise awareness to the loss of historic bridges and encourage their preservation. Campbell’s Covered Bridge, located in Landrum, S.C., just ten minutes away from North Greenville University, is one of the last few historic bridges standing in our state.

Campbells’s Covered Bridge is the last remaining covered bridge in the state.
As this historic sign states, it was built in 1909 and named for Alexander Lafayette Campbell, who owned and operated a grist mill there.
Campbell’s Covered Bridge is a popular spot for photo sessions. Faith Action, a junior at NGU, went with me as I captured the essence of this beautiful historic site.
Many families come here to get their fall photos taken, as the bridge is surrounded by beautiful fall leaves.
One tradition to make sure to do at this bridge is to sign your name whenever visiting.
This sign at the bridge not only tells us more of the history of the bridge, but it also provides for us a map of the place. Greenville County Parks, Recreation, & Tourism does a great job of providing tourists with all of the information needed on a visit here.
The bridge, giving off an old barn look, is beautiful during every season of the year because of its distinct color.
This location also offers many picnic and study spots for anyone needing to get away and appreciate not only the nature, but also the history of this place.
