Homecoming: some dance, some battle

Evan Harper, Staff Writer

After missing out on a lot last year, North Greenville finally had its homecoming football game and dance this Saturday.  A dance will always be a promise of a good time, football on the other hand could have gone a little bit better.

North Greenville hosted Mississippi College this Saturday and took a tough loss 42-21. Although the crusaders took a hefty loss, the effort was there.

In the first quarter North Greenville scored first, Dre Williams had a beautiful 65-yard run for a touchdown to give the Crusaders a 7-point lead with the extra point.

After scoring, Mississippi college came right back with a 79-yd drive that tied the game at 7. The 11-minute drive by Mississippi ran out the rest of the first quarter.

While things were still looking even at the beginning of the second quarter, Mississippi scored another touchdown to make the score 14-7. Crusader’s quarterback, Kaelan Reilly threw a 40-yard pass to Mathew Martin, then got into the endzone for a touchdown.

With seconds left in the half, Mississippi College scored to make the score 21-14 at halftime, with Mississippi College scoring the only points in the third quarter with one touchdown. It lead to a long and slow third quarter with long drives and no progress.

The fourth quarter brought quite a bit of life; Kaelan Reilly got the ball to Dre Williams again with a 19-yd pass for a touchdown. With that score not being enough, the Crusaders went for the onside kick. North Greenville succeeded with the onside kick, but failed to capitalize.

With North Greenville scoring one touchdown in the fourth and Mississippi college scoring two, we were left with a final score of 42-21.
