Here’s the Slice- What’s Happening to NGU’s Favorite Bagel Shop

At NGU there are many places for students to hang out. The dining hall, Chick-fil-A, and outside areas make great options for groups to gather.
One place where many students used to enjoy hanging out was Einstein’s. The shop was right beside the theatre building and allowed students to hang out, grab a cup of coffee or a bagel.
But now, the building is no longer operational, instead, it’s empty.
Students here at NGU don’t understand why the building closed, because to them it was a fun place to hang out.
Although behind the scenes there are some real reasons. According to Senior Associate Vice President for Tigerville Operations, Billy Watson, “Staffing was really hard.”
Having a virus and everyone wearing masks, it was hard to get some staff to work at Einstein. It would be impossible to have no one work there, and for students to go there expecting everything to be normal when nothing was normal at that point in time.
Since COVID was affecting everyone at that point, there were discussions on places that should stay.
According to Watson, “We had to make judgments on what should stay.” It was hard to figure out places that needed to stay for the sake of the students, but now it was going to be Einstein.
Now that Einstein is gone, people at NGU are curious as to what that building is going to be next.
Is it going to continue staying empty? Or will it turn into something else? Well, some people are coming up with ideas and exploring what are the right things to do with this empty building.
“We are working on plans to make a place for it,” said Watson.
So, there are plans for something to be there, but no idea has been confirmed yet. Perhaps Einstein could be back again, or the building could be something completely different. It’s hard to say at this point but what we do know is whatever it is, it will be another place for us, students, to hang out at again.
