Catch Up Here: NGU chapel’s latest changes

Delaney Blackburn, Editor-in-Chief

NGU Chapel will operate in virtual format for the week of Aug. 30, 2021. Currently, chapel will be in online format for this week only.

On Monday, Aug. 30, the COVID-19 Response Team announced NGU Chapel has temporarily transitioned to an online format.

Rather than holding in-person services, NGU Chapel will be recorded and posted to the NGU Chapel Boxcast and Youtube.

The faculty and staff chapel scheduled for Friday, Sept. 3, will also be virtual.

Jody Jennings, vice president for campus ministries and student engagement at North Greenville University, said the message was sent out of an abundance of caution due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.

He said leading up to Labor Day, chapel will be online to reduce exposure to COVID-19 in large environments.

Jennings said the COVID-19 Task Force meets together to discuss situations relative to coronavirus.

Within the task force, different departments can present protocols for consideration.

The protocol must be agreed upon because North Greenville University’s COVID-19 guidelines must stay consistent across all departments.

Jennings added, “For example, I couldn’t say we’re going to require masks in resident halls when every other place has no mask.”

Jennings said the COVID-19 Task Force must monitor, adapt and make changes as necessary based on events happening nationally and locally.

Jennings said regardless of what format chapel is in, the NGU community continues to pray the same prayer: that God will work in all of us.

He said, “No matter what, we’re always expecting, hoping and praying for the same experience in our hearts.”
