North Greenville baseball transfers new talent

North Greenville baseball has been quite a success story over the recent years but has not made it as far as they desired.

With COVID-19 stopping their previous season, head coach Landon Powell recruited several new transfers to add to his championship bound team.

Zach Taglieri, wearing #48, and Kevin Mintz, wearing #10, are just two of the transfers that will be joining the Crusaders this season.

Kevin Mintz, a transfer from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, stepped on the field with high hopes of showing what he has to offer at the college baseball level.

“I spent three years at UNCW and didn’t get the playing time I deserved,” Mintz said. “So I thought it was in my best interests to bring my talent to NGU.”

Mintz played summer ball with one of NGU’s coaches this past summer and also had a teammate from UNCW transfer to NGU last season. He came to NGU already having bonds and chemistry with people on the roster.

Mintz said, “Just getting to know his coaching style and his vibe was great.”

His teammate who also transferred from UNCW to NGU said great things about the program and school as a whole.

Zach Taglieri, a grad-transfer from Citadel brings D1 talent to the Crusaders this season and also came in with a desire off the field.

“I’m just a grad transfer, you know I graduated from Citadel and still wanted to play baseball,” Taglieri said. “I had a desire to become closer to God, so I thought NGU would be a good fit.”

Taglieri’s hopes off the field also brought high hopes on the field and a love for the city of Greenville as well.

He spoke highly of head coach Landon Powell. “Yeah, you know Landon’s got a good thing going here, a lot of good guys, great team atmosphere and you know I love Greenville. I’m a huge Greenville drive fan,” Taglieri said.

With the Crusaders having so much talent on the roster this season, it leaves NGU baseball fans with high hopes of having their much-deserved championship season.

Mintz and Taglieri will be sharing the mound this season while the Crusaders make another run for a championship title.
