Today is National Name Your Car Day

I didn’t know that was a thing either but it most definitely is, and we are here for it.
I got my first car when I was 17. It was a 1996 white Buick. She was ugly but she took me places. I never gave her a name and it’s probably my deepest regret in life. When she died, that was it. The Buick was just gone. No one knew who to sign the card to. The grave just read, here lies Autumn’s car. How tragic. All those places together, all those memories, but no name.
When I turned 18 I got a 2001 Chevy Blazer. I named him Bruce. I’m not sure why but he always broke down and gave me a lot of problems, so Bruce the Blazer just felt appropriate.
Finally, at 21 I purchased a 2009 Honda Accord and I named her Gidget. Don’t ask me why because I really just thought it was funny. No deeper meaning. Gidget and I have seen lots of places together, and when I gave her that name, I knew it was the start of a beautiful adventure.
I traveled out west with my friend Taylor Hamblin this summer, and here is her bright blue mustang she calls Marissa. Sixteen states later and Marissa started to struggle. Thankfully, she is still with us.
Some people pick names that rhyme like my friend Laura Pulley. Her Honda is called Ronda. Or the first letter of the car matches the first letter of the name. Like my friend Lindsay Wisehart; her car Cindy is a Civic. Some just get a certain feeling from a car that helps them choose the name. I know two different people who both named their cars Petunia. Yes, Petunia.
If you just got a new car and are having trouble thinking of a proper name, I asked a few of my friends what they named their cars. After all, you don’t wanna own a car with no name.
Lebron the Chrysler Lebanon – Rachel Davidson
R2 the Blue Honda CRV – Claire Hill
Paula the Pontiac – Jeremy Schultz
Sally the Chevy Sonic – Brayden Smith
Klaus the Santa Fe – Meredith Tuck
Calvin the Corolla – Kayleigh Harrill
