Make Up Your Mind with 6 Ways to Train the Brain
Bryce Faulkenberry, Staff Writer
There are many different ways to train your brain. Some may be better than others, but at the end of the day it all depends on preference.
Lumosity
One way to train your brain is the website trained is Luminosity. This website is for all ages and adapts to everyones strengths and weaknesses. All this app asks are for a couple of minutes a day of the users attention. There are games for speed, attention, memory, flexibility, problem solving, and math. All of these games help strengthen the mind. This app is free for anyone to use either on their website or on the app.
Peak Brain Training
Similar to Lumosity, Peak can help strengthen the mind through games on our smart phones. This app has over 45 games that are used for training. These games are under categories such as memory, language, focus, problem solving, mental agility and emotion. This app is also free to use but can only be downloaded on app stores. It is not available on the internet.
Learning a New Language
Another way to help train the brain is by learning another language. Everyone is so used to speaking their own language. Learning a new one can open up new areas of the mind. It also can help people sound more sophisticated by speaking multiple languages, which is no easy task. There are classes in school for learning different languages along with websites such as Duolingo.
Video Games
Many video games can help train the brain as well. In games such as Uncharted, players memorize patterns and puzzles to help you advance through the game. Sports games like Madden or NBA 2k force the players to learn plays for both offence and defense. Games like Minecraft encourage creativity and architecture to help the player learn.
Other Knowledge Based Activities
Reading, drawing, painting and crafting are all knowledge based activities. While people are reading, they unlock another side of their brain that holds the imagination. Reading also strengthens vocabulary by learning new and unfamiliar words and phrases. Painting and drawing require the artist to be creative and to use creative parts of their brain in order to create effectively. Crafting is similar to drawing and painting because it requires the designer to be creative and to think outside the box. Crafting does differ in terms of medium and a higher emphasis on using your hands.
