All-American athlete, Tevin Richardson, is an example of excellence in athletics at North Greenville University. His accomplishments on the track field are what makes his athletic career stand out.
Each day, Richardson follows a strict schedule to ensure his success in track and his education. A typical day consists of classes, track practice, getting ice treatments after practice and studying in the library.
As an NGU sprinter, Richardson has had an impressive track career with All-American honors and was ranked 11th in the nation in the 200-meter race last season.
According to the website, NGUathletics, Richardson currently holds the fifth best time in the nation for Division II outdoor track in the mens 400-meter run. When asked about his success, Richardson commented, I dont really pay attention to all that, I just go out there and run and do my best.
Richardson first discovered his passion for running track during his eighth grade year at Calhoun Falls Charter School in Calhoun Falls, S.C. He started with competing in the 400 and 800-meter dash. It wasn’t until he started running the 100, 200 and 400-meter sprints that he found his place.
In high school, Richardson’s success and dedication to the sport grew. By the end of his high school career, Richardson claimed five state championships in track events. Also, his high school awarded him Track Athlete of the Year two years in a row.
Throughout his athletic career, Richardson has built a rather impressive resume. Richardsons time for his sprints of the 100-meter (10.5 seconds), 200-meter (21.2 seconds) and 400-meter (47.3 seconds) is his current personal bests.
When asked about why he enjoys track, Richardson said, Running just takes a lot off my mind and brings me a lot of joy and happiness. Its just a sport that comes naturally to me and I love the feeling I get from it.
Richardsons motivation is that he hopes to one day win a national team title on a collegiate level and eventually wants to go professional.
