Here’s your quick news recap for March

On March 10, 2019, Flight ET302 crashed after leaving from Addis, Ababa, killing all 157 passengers aboard. The flight was heading for Nairobi, Kenya, and crashed shortly after 8:44 a.m. Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde GebreMariam told the media that the pilots reported technical difficulties and asked for permission to turn around and return to the airport. The crash happened shortly after. This was the deadliest crash since mid-2018.
In 2018, the government tried to put an end to seafood fraud. After multiple failed attempts, not much was achieved. A report showed that 21 percent of fish is mislabeled in typical grocery stores and restaurants. An investigation revealed that companies profit from buying low-grade fish, embellishing it with false labels and selling it to customers with the illusion that the fish is high-quality. In 2013, another report showed that the U.S. mislabels just around 33 percent of its seafood.
On March 1, 2019, Alex Herron and her roommate found a stranger standing in their kitchen cooking a tortilla. Herron yelled at the man to leave and he respectfully obliged. On his way out, he took a can of soup, and proceeded to eat it on the balcony. He was then caught by police. Later, it was found the man was under the influence of alcohol. He was released from prison saying he would stay away from the apartment complex and stop drinking.
The pilot for an Air Canada flight decided to buy 23 pizzas for his passengers while being stranded due to snow. The pilot paid for the pizza out of his pocket, and it was delivered directly to the passengers on the plane. The owner of the pizzeria said he was happy to provide the pizza for the passengers, even though it was storming and he only had a short staff that night. There were 150 passengers aboard. The pilot said his idea came from other airlines buying pizza for their stranded passengers.
Teachers Resign after Controversial Homework
In Tennessee, two teachers have resigned after giving their students controversial homework. The assignment asked the students to pretend to be a slave owner and come up with expectations for their slaves. The other aspects of the assignment were to create a political cartoon showing immigrant labor in the U.S., and to write a PSA about the hazards of living in urban areas. Parents were outraged after seeing this, leading to the resignation of the teachers. They have since apologized for this, saying that it was ‘�inappropriate.�
A couple in Wisconsin are now facing criminal charges after breaking measles quarantine to go to the gym. While driving, the two were pulled over, and confessed to being ordered to stay home until labeled �noncontagious.� The man told police that he went to the gym because he felt guilty for not going. The couple also told police that they needed to get out of the house, because they were going insane just staying inside all of the time.
Cuong Phan was arrested in a Californian neighborhood for trying to set fire to his neighbor�s house. A doorbell cam caught Phan emptying an entire container of diesel fuel around the door. After emptying the container, Phan tried to ignite the liquid, but couldn�t get a spark. The family was asleep inside of the house when this event transpired. Once arrested, Phan told the cops that he had no problem with the family of the home, but that he saw a ghost at the door. Phan has since been identified with drug abuse and mental disabilities.
