On Saturday March 23, 2019, North Greenville University will be hosting the annual “A Hero’s 5K” event. This walk/run is to remember all the soldiers who fought, died, and lived for our country.

A Hero’s 5K will take place at both North Greenville University’s Tigerville campus and at Furman University this Saturday.

This event was founded in 2010 in memory of SPC. Geoffrey Whitsitt who was killed in action in Afghanistan.

A Hero’s 5K was founded to raise awareness of those in the U.S. military that make sacrifices every single day and to raise money to support the servicemen and women and their families in South Carolina.

The event has grown into an organization with a dedicated volunteer staff and reaches out to the community to help other military veterans and their families who are hurting.

All of the proceeds from the 5K will go to the Upstate Warrior Solution. UWS is a non-profit organization in Upstate, South Carolina. Last year, the 5K raised over $10,000 for UWS.

Upstate Warrior Solution connects with warriors and their families to help with their needs and to guide them through developing solutions in many areas of their lives.

To register for the 5K go to aheros5k.com. The 5K costs $35 and the kids fun run is free. The 5K will begin at 8:55 A.M. The kids run will begin at 9:10 A.M.

Those running the 5K will receive a t-shirt at check-in on Saturday. Check- in will begin at 7:30 A.M.

There are multiple award categories for the 5K. Awards given are 1st-3rd overall male and overall female, top male and top female veteran, and top male and female of each age category. The age categories are up to age 19, 20-35, 36-45, 46-55, 56-65, 66-75, and 70+.
