Humans of NGU: Artist Edition, Jordan Hurley

Jordan Hurley is a senior Studio Art major with concentrations in ceramics and drawing. He was chosen by the art department as one of the most noteworthy ceramic artists.
Hurley became an artist out of necessity. According to Hurley, he “used art as an escape, and out of that escape, passion and interest grew.” Hurley went on to say that, “Years of encouragement from friends and family opened his eyes to the talent God has given him.” From there he pursued North Greenville University to advance his education through a wide range of art mediums.
When asked where Hurley gets his inspiration from he replied with, “ I gain inspiration from my other interests: my fiancée, music, history, different cultures, the fictional worlds in video games and of course other artists.”
While I’ve only chosen to showcase a couple of Hurley’s works of art, he has a myriad of works in an eclectic mix of diverse mediums.

Hurley’s first work shown here is called Teapot. This work is a contemporary rendition of a historical Japanese teapot. According to Hurley, “It is a functional vessel that invites the viewer to question its origin and influence.”

Hurley’s second work shown here is called Drive In, Fly Out!. Hurley suggested that, “This work is influenced by Tim See, a famous ceramic artist who makes fictional oil can sculptures.” He goes on to say that, “My work references his, and it also inspired by the world famous video game series Fallout.”
Jordan Hurley plans to graduate from NGU in April, and from there he plans to transition into his career, and continue wedding planning.
