Short story briefs: Choosing a career in four years

Sometimes, we take a step back and view our lives as a sequence of decisions. We make decision after decision. It is not wrong to view our lives this way until our judgement is clouded by the consecutive pattern of choosing what we think is best for our lives and what we deem the right choice. Instead, we should look to Christ and seek out His plans for our lives because He will never fail us.

This is especially important when it comes to college. Choosing a career in the span of four years? Sounds easy enough until you are actually thrown into the situation without a clue of what career path you want to take. Rarely, people actually know exactly what they want to do with the rest of their lives.

It is hard enough having to pick out what to wear in the mornings or what restaurants to go to eat. These insignificant decisions really put into perspective how difficult choosing an entire career path in four years can be.

Life seems easy enough until all of a sudden, you are thrown into the real world where you must take a leap in one direction hoping it leads to all of your hopes and dreams. At this point in college, you will begin to question exactly where your place is in this life. You will ask yourself questions you did not even realize needed answers, and it can bring about a lot of stress.

This is because we are not meant to have all of the answers. There is a God who is so much greater than we are, and He has all of the answers. He may not give them to us when we want them most, but he will provide them when we need them most.

Set goals for yourself, but do not create an exact plan hoping everything will go accordingly. This is not reality, however, goals themselves are a great way to see the progress that God is making in your life.

Make sure your focus isnt necessarily on what plans you have for your own life and what steps you think you need to take in order to get there. The process will become much more difficult because we are not meant to be in control.

Overall, when it comes to the decision-making process in college, it is not necessarily about making sure you choose the correct path right away. In fact, many different paths could lead you to the same destination. However, the most important step is to keep your focus on God and pray over the plans he has for you.

His plans are so much greater than ours, so when we get discouraged about being indecisive, seek the Lords plans for your life. Do not let fear scare you away from Gods plans for your life.

The next time you are stressing about how these four years of college could determine the rest of your life, dont stress. Pray about it, and God will lead you exactly where you need to be. Thank God for His plans and not our own.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
