Trash talk or healthy competition?

Humans are competitive by nature. Take an athlete and that competitive nature multiplies by 100 percent. Take a professional athlete and they eat, sleep and breath competition.

Add social media and they sleep, eat, breath and post competition.

The World Series is exciting enough but one player in particular made players and fans a little more hype for the 2018 World Series.

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman got some heads to turn based off of what he posted on his Instagram story.

Bregman put two stories up, one of which was shortly deleted.

The first video, which was deleted, Bregman uploaded was of Houston teammates George Springer, Jose Altuve and himself hitting back-to-back-to-back homeruns off Nathan Eovaldi, Boston’s Game 3 starter, while he was part of of the Tampa Bay Rays. With the video he put “lil pregame video work.”

The second video was of Bregman crossing home plate with his arm raised. That caption read: “Foreshadowing.”

Most of the Red Sox players thought nothing of it, but one for the first baseman, Steve Pearce, he thought it was a little classless.

“Wow I don’t know why he would do that,” Pearce told WEEI-FM. “We do our talking on the field. If he wants to run his mouth now we’ll see who is talking at the end of the series. I don’t think he needs to run his mouth. He’s one of the best players in the game. If that’s his personality, that’s his personality. Nothing against the guy. If that’s how he has to motivate himself, whatever.”

The Red Sox manager also had a few thoughts. His meaning more as he was an assistant coach with the Astros last year.

“If you need motivation in Game 3 of the ALCS,  you better check yourself because you win three more games, you go to the show.” Cora reported to ESPN, “ Ands that’s what should motivate you. Alex has different ways of motivating himself and whatever. I’ll leave it at that.”

Cora also said he thought some good could come from it. “It’s always good that people talk about the game. And if that’s the reason they’re talking about it, so be it. But from my end, I don’t pay attention to that.”

Bergman should’ve known better than to do this based off of how the Red Sox organization responded to the New York Yankees’ version of trash talk in their last series. The Yankees played the team’s victory song, “New York, New York,” after the Yankees’ Game 2 win. The Red Sox went on to close out the Yankees, winning two games in a row.

The Boston Red Sox went on to win the 2018 World Series.

It goes to show, if you’re going to bring the show you might want to bring the dough to go with it.

The Red Sox showed everyone it’s not just words but actions.

Do you just talk the talk or do you walk the talk?

That’s what it all comes down to.
