Campus Ministries at North Greenville University

Taylor Deaton, News and Opinion Section Editor

At North Greenville University, ministry is one of our most important forms of outreach into the lives of those on campus and those in our community. Here are a few campus ministries to get involved with while you’re here.

North Greenville University’s Gospel Choir was started in the spring of 2017. They minister at area churches such as Bethlehem Baptist Church in Simpsonville, S.C. NGU’s Gospel Choir also performed at the North Greenville Tree Lighting Ceremony in the fall of 2017. They are gearing up to sing at upcoming Coffeehouses, bible studies around the area, and are planning to minister at Charleston Southern University for the Collegiate Gathering in November 2018. Gospel Choir rehearsals are held at 5:30 p.m. Mondays in the Joyful Sound Conference Room located in Tingle Student Center. NGU’s Gospel Choir welcomes students at any time who want to lift up the Lord in song and on instruments.

FCA

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a student led ministry. FCA meets on Friday mornings at 10 a.m. Student interns serve on a leadership team, while captains serve as voluntary leaders who represent many sports at NGU. FCA encourages anyone to join them in fellowship, athlete or not.

Baptist Collegiate Ministry is a time of musical worship, prayer, biblical teaching, and community. BCM meets Thursdays at 7.p.m. in Turner Chapel. They encourage everyone to come out and receive the word. BCM Impact Teams have been trained and have just started going out on missions this past weekend. Already, 77 NGU students have agreed to participate in leading Disciple Now weekends this school year. Joshua Gilmore, BCM director, considers it to be “one of [his] highest honors to now serve at NGU as the BCM director.” BCM encourages students who have a desire to serve Christ through BCM to join in prayer before service, join an impact team, and serve on weekend trips.

Joyful Sound

Joyful Sound is a music ensemble that was first founded in 1978. Since their founding, Joyful Sound has shared God’s Word through music and worship. The purpose of their ministry is “to introduce people to Jesus Christ, help people grow in Christ, and encourage the brokenhearted.” Joyful Sound is composed of two nine-member vocal teams, including a sound technician, and a five-piece band. Joyful Sound members receive scholarships for their contributions to the team.

Urbanwood is an independent ministries composed of students who were brought together at North Greenville. They are a nonprofit organization focused on promoting diversity and freedom through worship and arts. Urbanwood strives to provoke change, embrace differences, grow and unite. They hold 2 to 3 events per month. Some events are at North Greenville, while others are held at churches that will allow them to come in and worship. Urbanwood member and North Greenville senior Cameron Burroughs says that “Urbanwood is like a family.” Burroughs also states that “[Urbanwood] is here to hold each other accountable and to lift each other up.”
