When the Fourth of July rolls around, that’s when dad pulls out his fancy grill and mom gets to cooking. The fun of the Fourth of July is the fireworks, food, parades, reunions and much more. Though it seems that we know everything there is to know about the fourth, here are some little-known facts about the holiday.

  • America really gained its independence on July 2, 1776.
  • Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence on a “laptop” or a small board that sat on your lap.
  • Only two men signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, the rest signed August 2.
  • Seems the fourth is a happy day but three U.S. presidents have died on July 4 – John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe.
