Recent North Greenville graduate Ashton Heard is reaping the benefits and reaching others because of his Interdisciplinary education. The Abbieville, S.C. native came to North Greenville as an early childhood education major with the hopes of one day becoming an elementary P.E. teacher and coach. Heard feels that “kids are the future” and “its up to us to create a positive for them at that stage.”

When asked what ultimately lead Heard to become an Interdisciplinary major, he said, “I loved early childhood but I wanted path that would allow me to be more a mentor to kids”. Becoming a part of the Interdisc. major at NGU gave Heard the opportunity to incorporate education and communication into his learning. “It gave me a better perception of myself and what I loved to do.”

Heard is currently working at boys home in Anderson, S.C. as direct care counselor. Just being able to to have an impact on child’s life is a reward in itself for Heard.
