The North Greenville University football team ended its fall season in November with a 4-6 overall record. They also had a spring season which included training and preparation for the upcoming season in the fall of 2018. As an added tool for gaining interest and talent to the NGU football program, there will be a football prospect camp for high school players this summer.

The camp will be held on multiple dates over the summer including June 21, June 23 and July 19. Registration for the camp will begin at 10 a.m. and the camp itself will run from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The location of the camp will be Younts Stadium and Hendricks Fieldhouse. The cost of the camp will be $40, and the cost includes a camp t-shirt.

This prospect camp will allow high school student-athletes to gain an understanding of what it is like to play football at a collegiate level as well as gain a comprehensive review of the expectations of student-athletes in the NGU football program.

Head coach, Jeff Farrington, gives his perspective on the concept behind the summer prospect camp. He states, “The prospect camp gives us the ability to have high school players on campus to visit our campus and athletic facilities. They will have the opportunity to participate with an NGU assistant coach for the specific football position they play.”

Fundamentals are taught for each position group and they will be allowed to compete and demonstrate some of their skill set for the sport of football. This camp is also inclusive to all positions in football, which include: quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, offensive line, long snappers, punters, place kickers, defensive backs, linebackers, outside linebackers and defensive backs.

During the camp, the coaching staff will divide the players into their position groups to focus on certain fundamentals and drills for each position. There will be drills that include one-on-one drills that allow the players to compete against one another. When asked about what he hopes this elite prospect camp will accomplish, Farrington says, “awareness of the NGU football program.

The elite prospect camp has been put into place in order to improve the talent of the NGU football team in hopes of having a better game and season outcomes.

When looking at some previous camp outcomes for student-athletes, Farrington gave the statistic that the team “has around 10-15 student-athletes attend NGU as team members the last three years, that have attended the previous summer’s camp.”

The prospect camp is allowing for a unique opportunity for high school athletes to experience first-hand the realities of playing football at a collegiate level, as well as establish a relationship with the coaching staff. With participation in the camp, athletes will be able to get their foot in the door if they are serious about playing at a collegiate level for the NGU football program.

Student-athletes that are interested in being involved with this summer prospect camp can come to the dates of the event with the registration form or pre-registration paperwork completed. For more information, interested participants can go to the NGU Football athletics page.
