Men’s golf season recap

The NGU men’s golf team is almost ready to wrap up its season with one more match, the Conference Carolinas Championship.

The season started off sharp with first place win out of 10 teams in Tennessee with a two-day team score of 562. Evan Gfeller, senior, came out as individual tournament champion by racking up three birdies. NGU came out on top with Southern Wesleyan and Erskine trailing behind.

NGU also pulled out a second-place victory out of 15 teams at the Southern Tide Intercollegiate hosted by Limestone College.

Chase Fisher, senior, got his first overall win of the season by shooting a 74 on day one, followed by a 67 on day two. He earned the overall individual title helping the Crusaders rise to second place. The Crusaders’ overall team score for the two days was 574.

NGU finished in third place at the Southeast Region Preview lead by Gfeller’s sixth-place finish. The overall two-day team score was a 580.

Fourthp lace was achieved at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate with a team score of 876 while Newberry College took first. Gfeller had won his second fall tournament with an individual score of 207 for three days.

The Crusaders have also brought home a fifth, sixth and 11th-place title during their season.

Coming up in April, the men’s golf team will compete in the Conference Carolinas Championship.
