When hearing about someone being diagnosed with diabetes, most of us dont even flinch, but we should. Diabetes is a very serious thing and it shouldnt be taken lightly.

So, what is Diabetes Awareness Day and how can people help? Diabetes Awareness Day brings awareness to how dominant type 2 diabetes really is. Type 2 diabetes is a serious disease that could lead to kidney disease, nerve damage and amputations. Diabetes is a problem where it causes your sugar levels to rise higher or lower than normal.

When your blood glucose levels are higher than normal, hyperglycemia occurs which can lead to diabetes. When theyre low, the condition is called hypoglycemia. I suffer from hypoglycemia and have episodes where Ive passed out or felt like everything was moving in slow motion. The best way to manage your diabetes is to live a full and a healthy life. There are two key ways to lower your risk from getting type 2 diabetes: staying active and avoid becoming overweight.

Currently there is no cure, but there are medications that can help with it. Usually, type 2 diabetes was only seen in adults, but now it is becoming more common in young adults. You can also be born into a family that has a long history with diabetes. It doesnt mean it is guaranteed, but there is a higher chance of it occurring if it is hereditary.

Diabetes Awareness Day is a time for everyone to go and take the Type 2 Diabetes Risk Test. It takes less than a minute to fill out. You can also ask your doctor how to lower your risk and then go out and let others know how they can help.
