Feb. 24, 2018 was a date that bike riders in the Upstate would never forget. Neither could their legs, might I add. Every year Greenville Country Parks Recreation & Tourism hosts an annual event called, “Six Hours on the Ridge.”

Yes, you did hear me correctly. Six hours of strenuous, thigh-killing, heavy breathing, stamina and endurance pouring out and racing up and down the hills of Pleasant Ridge Camp & Retreat Center located in Marietta, S.C. The race featured the six-mile JFA trail.

Hold on for the thrill of your life because the trail was back and it was bigger and better than ever. If you have $25 in your pocket and have a love for popping wheelies and getting a strenuous workout that will get every part of your body moving, then head on down to Pleasant Ridge Camp & Retreat Center next year. It’s time to take the training wheels off and take the plunge.

Seriously, I would consider training for it now because bike riding for six hours while riding up with an elevation gain of 800 feet just screams “challenging.”

An addition to this year’s event was a team category.  Teams were made up of two people and categories were:  males, females and co-ed.

Individual categories were adults (17 years and up) male and female and youth (16 and under) male and female. Parents who participated in the race didn’t have to worry about watching their little ones either because the event held kid bike races that were absolutely free for ages 12 and under.

Prizes were awarded to the top three finishers in every category. Riders were scored on the number of laps completed.

I’m sure many bikers finished the race and celebrated with some fine dining at nearby places like Tupelo Honey, Tandem and Northwest Grill located in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.
