Unit G: A spreading luxury?
Trey Stewart, Staff Writer
Some of the most recent buzz going on around campus involves the dorm rooms and the changes that are taking place within them.
As many may have already heard, Unit G has been under construction for a while, and the unit has just recently been completed as of the beginning of spring semester.
When residents of Unit G walk into their new living spaces (using the key card each resident was given in order to open the front door), they are immediately greeted with a lobby area, equipped with couches, comfortable chairs, a large coffee table, as well as a flatscreen TV containing access to Netflix, Youtube, as well as one hundred different TV channels.
Directly to the right when residents enter Unit G is another wonderful addition to the NGU living experience a kitchen. Residents can wash dishes, cook meals or place items in the refrigerator to be used by anyone else who calls the unit home.
The atmosphere of Unit G is comparable to that of a hotel room, according to one Unit G resident, Seth Driskill. I love the new dorm. Its such a huge change from our original unit. It felt so rejuvenating when my roommate and I first walked into this place at the beginning of the semester. It was a major upgrade.
Of course, perhaps what many are wondering is when the other units will be looking like Unit G.
And according to Billy Watson, assistant vice president of Student Life, they may not have to wait too long after all.
When asked about renovations to the other units, he commented, The plan is to have all of the units look like that. I know that when we started, the plan was to start with Unit G and then move to Unit C so that we could have one for the guys and one for the girls. My hope is that we can do one per semester, maybe even start doing one of them every summer. And since there are seven units, we are hoping they can all end up being finished within two-and-a-half to three years.
But which of the units is next on the chopping block of renovations?
We havent talked about which one would be next after Unit C, but the goal is to get them all done and get them done relatively soon.
Residents of units A-F here at NGU have some changes on the way that are sure to be intriguing to those who inhabit these dorm rooms.
Expect to see some exciting developments involving the units very soon as NGU continues to look towards enhancing the college experience for the residents staying on campus.
