Soup Day to raise money for hungry in Spartanburg

Hub City Empty Bowls is going to host its annual Soup Day to raise money and awareness for hunger in Spartanburg. This program is being lead by Carolina Clay Artists. Soup Day is a community event where each person can make $15 donations to receive locally handmade pottery bowls and a simple meal of soup, bread and tea. All the collected money will be given to TOTAL Ministries.

7th grader overcomes a crippling condition to play football

Liberty seventh-grader Israel Cox is making his first season with the Falcons a special one. Cox is the team’s running back. The 13-year-old has arthrogryposis. He was born with club hands and feet. Yet, after seven surgeries at the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Greenville, he’s ready to tackle whatever comes his way, including a few football players.

Free bus rides Friday in Greenville

The city of Greenville and Greenlink organized Fare Free Friday on October 27. It’s a chance for passengers to ride public transit without having to pay. The month of October is “Try Transit Month” in Greenville. The purpose of this event was to inform people about public transportation options available in the community.

6-year-old with autism suspended from school because of GPS device

A 6-year-old boy , Kahlil Hadley, from Milwaukee, living with autism was suspended from school because of a GPS tracker he wears on a belt under his clothes. The device sends an alert to his mom’s phone if he wanders outside of a preset zone. Hadley began wearing the device on Friday, and by Tuesday, his mom received an urgent message from the school saying for Kahlil to remove the device or that they would remove him. Cassandra Hadley’s refusal has resulted in Kahlil’s suspension from school.
