Freshmen of NGU: A peek into the life of Hannah Roddy
Ashlynn Cartrette, Staff Writer
Have you ever met someone so genuine and kind that you instantly decide that you want to be their friend and hope that they want to be your friend too?
Hannah Roddy is definitely one of those people. Roddy kindly allowed a peek into her dorm to discover a bit more about her sweet spirit.

All people have a unique sense of style, especially in how they decorate their rooms, so Roddys interview was centered around how her dorm dcor correlates to her passions. Roddy knew she wanted [her] dorm to be a home away from home” so she has posters of her favorite band, figurines of some of her favorite superheroes and magnets from her recent trip to New York. Her room captures what is important to her: family and friends, music, superheroes and her faith.
Roddy’s love for her family and friends is truly evident in her room dcor. There are numerous photos of the people she cares about. Having photographs printed is fairly rare these days, so it is endearing when there are printed photos displayed in a room. Roddy obviously put a lot of care and effort into gathering and displaying pictures of her parents, grandma and dear friends. Hearing her tell about who was in each photo was heart warming; it is so clear that she holds so much love for them in her heart.

Tenth Avenue North is Roddy’s favorite band; she has met them multiple times, as well as other musicians. Hearing her talk about those encounters was so exciting, because it was obvious that those were extremely special moments to her. She said that the band members she has met have all been so sweet. Roddy displays a poster of her favorite band over her bed and has a picture from one of their concerts on her desk. Working in a field surrounded by music would be her dream job.

Displayed on top of her desk are numerous little figurines of some of her most beloved superheroes. This collection catches your eye as soon as you enter the room. They are adorable little characters. It is so fun to hear people talk about things they love, so talking with Roddy about these little guys was thrilling. Roddy loves Marvel movies and knew including that interest in her room was a must.
To the side of the bands poster displayed over her bed, there is a framed verse, Psalm 91:4. Underneath is the word hope framed as well. Hope is a general theme in Roddy’s room, displayed on her wall and her desk. Hope is my favorite word ever, she said, ’Because when you dont have anything else, hope in the Lord is all you can cling on to. Over the years, that has been my anthem. Amen, sister. Roddy also has this plaque that serves as a fantastic reminder, especially since school will soon become more overwhelming. The plaque reads, When life gets too hard to standKNEEL. The most striking impression one would take away from Roddy’s room was how much she loves her family and friends, but mostly how much she loves the Lord.
Roddy was asked, if her dorm could say something about her, what would it say? Her answer was, She likes a lot of stuff, or shes really messy, she likes New York, superheroes and bands. Roddy has a lot of memorabilia from her three trips to New York City displayed in her room, from her collection of magnets, to a hat she got at a Broadway musical, to a tiny replica of the Statue of Liberty. When asked if she wanted to live in New York, she said that she would rather live in the country, but she loves the atmosphere of New York. Its magical, she stated, you cant go to Georgia and see all [of] that stuff. There [are] so many different cultures there and so much stuff to do.
