Mayor Rick Danner to speak to NGU graduates
Meghan Salinas, Staff Writer
As the school year comes to a close, some exciting news is ready to be shared. The graduation ceremony will start with an addressing statement made by NGU’s Interim President, Randall J. Pannell, and the commencement speaker will be Mayor of Greer, Rick Danner.
Since Danner’s election as the city of Greer Mayor in 1999, he has transformed the beloved city of Greer both economically and industrially, which included the opening of the South Carolina Inland Port. Greer has that small town feel to it and the city’s success is quite remarkable. Mayor Danner also holds the title as the longest-serving board member of the Municipal Association of South Carolina.
He is very honored to give the commencement speech to North Greenville University’s Spring 2017 graduates. Mayor Danner says that the theme of his commencement speech will be about commitment. What better theme for soon-to-be college graduates? Once you enter college, your life is instantaneously changed. You wake up the first day of freshman year of college, you blink and then before you know it, you receive your cap and gown.
Mayor Danner will be sharing the long-lasting impacts from people in his life that have helped him get to where he is today. Approximately 358 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degree students will be recognized individually during the ceremony at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 5 to be held in Melvin and Dollie Younts Stadium at North Greenville University’s main campus in Tigerville, S.C.
