NBA Playoffs: Opening round review
Associate Writer, Rondo Thompson
The 2017 NBA Playoffs are underway; first round action started Saturday.
The NBA Playoffs feature some familiar faces and also some newcomers to the big show. Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers look to make a run at back-to-back championships, but for the first time in the “second Lebron era”, the Cavs aren’t seeded #1. The Golden State Warriors and their all-star cast look to dethrone the Cavs and take the trophy back to the bay.
In the first round, the Cavs face off against Paul George and an Indiana Pacer team that started to gel together and cause problems for the Cavs in a possible upset. The Cavs took game one by 1 point on Saturday. Golden State faces against the 8 seeded Portland Trailblazers; the Warriors proved to be too much for the Trailblazers in game 1 as they took it 121-109.
A team that has quickly become a “Dark Horse” team is the Milwaukee Bucks. In the first round, Giannis “The Greek Freak” Antetokounmpo put on a stellar performance against the Toronto Raptors, a team who is favored to come out of the East conference. The Bucks took game one 97-83 in an easy outing.
The must-watch series is between the Oklahoma Thunder and the Houston Rockets, a match up of the NBA’s final MVP candidates — James Harden vs. Russell Westbrook . The league’s most exciting players will battle it out for the title of best player in the NBA.
