New year, new calendar. The 2017-2018 academic calendar has been changed, differing from the 2016-2017 one. Below are the following changes that may affect your future schedules.
AUGUST 2017
For faculty members, the Faculty Preparation Week is Aug. 14-17. Upcoming freshman move in Aug. 18, with the faculty being able to assist students who may need it. Orientation activities will commence on Aug. 19 with the President’s Reception on Aug. 20. Registration will last from Aug. 21-22, unlike last years with it being only one day on the 22. Classes will start at the same time as last year, Aug. 23. The same can be said of the day to add/drop a class (which is Aug. 29).
SEPTEMBER 2017
Labor Day remains the same, falling on Monday, Sept. 4.
OCTOBER 2017
Mid-semester grades are due on Oct. 11 with Fall break beginning at the end of classes on Oct. 13. Classes will resume on Oct. 18, with pre-scheduling falling on Oct. 25.
NOVEMBER 2017
The last day to drop a class with a “W” is Nov. 8. Thanksgiving begins at the end of classes on Nov. 21, with classes resuming on Nov. 27.
DECEMBER 2017
Dec. 1 is the last day to drop a class with “WP/WF” and instead of having Exam Preparation Day on a Friday like last year with exams starting on Saturday, the Exam Preparation Day will start Saturday, Dec. 2. Exams officially start on Dec. 4 and Christmas Holidays begin after the last exam on Dec. 7. Commencement is Saturday, Dec. 9.
JANUARY 2018
We come back earlier from break, Jan. 8-9 instead of Jan. 17. Classes will begin on Jan. 10, as opposed to Jan. 18 like previous years. The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday falls on Jan. 15 and the last day to add/drop a class is Jan. 17.
FEBRUARY 2018
Mid-semester grades are due Feb. 28. instead of March 8. That is all.
MARCH 2018
Spring break is earlier this year, starting on March 2 at the end of classes as opposed to March 10. Classes will then start back up on March 12. Pre-scheduling begins on March 21 and the last day to drop with a “W” is March 28. Good Friday then falls on March 30.
APRIL 2018
April 20 is the last day to drop a class with a “WP/WF” and Exam Preparation Day starts Saturday, April 21 (last year it started Friday, April 28). Exams begin on Monday, April 23, unlike last year when they started on Saturday, April 29. Commencement has changed from Friday, May 5 to Saturday, April 28. Linwood Hagin, associate vice president for academics, said the reasoning behind this date change is because North Greenville wants to be in line with other colleges to save loved ones from taking off of work. This also gives students more time to study.
Summer classes will start on a Tuesday, just like they did the year before.
