Joey Hyatt, a Christian Studies major at NGU, was severely burned on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

Hyatt was attempting to operate a fork lift at the Miracle Hill Thrift Store in Travelers Rest, where he worked, when he was caught in an explosion that left 40 percent of his body covered in second and third degree burns.

Hyatt’s coworkers helped him out of the fire, where he was then airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga.

Hyatt’s friend, Brent King, created a GoFundMe page to raise money to pay for Hyatt’s treatment. The GoFundMe has a goal of $50,000 and as April 10, 2017, it has raised $15,426.

Hyatt’s family has been posting regular updates on his Facebook page since the accident and continues to ask for prayers.
