Students from the North Greenville University Mass Communication’s department are getting ready to make the trip to Orlando, Fla. this weekend for the 2017 National Religious Broadcasters Convention.
Students will be serving as volunteers for the many sessions of the convention, as well as participating in teams in the 24-hour production challenges, which will feature teams from other universities across the country.
The convention will be from Feb. 27 through March 2, and will be held at the Orlando World Center Marriott hotel. Speakers and vendors will be coming from all over the world to network and showcase their latest technology and to discuss their current media projects. The convention was previously held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn. for the past several years.
Christian Athey, a senior broadcast media major, has previously served as a volunteer at the convention, and says the experience at last year’s convention served as a tremendous help. “It was a big rush of excitement to be a part of something with so many professionals in one building,” said Athey.
Athey will be competing on an audio team from North Greenville this year, and says he has high expectations to perform well. “I really feel that this year, I am representing the school,” he said. “I am going give it my best, because I am representing my school, my family and people that know me. My mindset is to try and show that I am proven in what I do.”
Alyssa Ashe, a junior broadcast media major who has previously worked as a volunteer and with a challenge team in the past, says the environment of NRB is extremely inspiring. “I think every time I go, there is a sense of being spiritually recharged,” said Ashe. “There are many people who go that are passionate about what they do, and I come back from the convention excited and challenged.”
