National Chili Day- get cooking in your dorm

Hunter Merck, associate writer

Let’s be honest; cafeteria food can sometimes get old, and students just want a home cooked meal. National Chili Day is on Feb. 23, and the perfect way to celebrate is by making some chili right in your dorm room.

1. Slow Cooker Chili

The Food Network offers a chili that is easy to throw together in a crock pot. It only takes about ten minutes to prepare and about eight hours to cook (hence the name, slow cooker chili), but the end result will make you feel warm inside. It serves a total of four people.

2. Bean Chili

If you’re looking for something that can be made in the microwave, then look no further. This recipe requires very little effort, and not nearly as much time as a slow cooker. It’s safe to assume this can serve multiple people, or one very, very hungry person. This would pair well with a baked potato which can also be cooked in the microwave.

3. Easy Three-Ingredient Chili

College students are on a budget. There is no questioning that. Therefore, the fewer the ingredients the better, which makes this recipe perfect. It’s a little more difficult to make, requiring a stove, but with a little bit of research, and it could easily be made in the microwave with the right time.

4. Instant Pot Mixed Bean Chilli

Another crock pot creation, this chili is comprised of several different kinds of beans and no meat. That makes this recipe a good option for vegetarians, or vegans. There are a lot of ingredients, but it serves about six people. It would be good for a mini party.
