Staff Writer, Caleb Bynum
The North Greenville football team is off to a good start this season. The Crusaders went 7-4 last season and made the playoffs despite a tough schedule. A key player of this years successful season, Travis Beatty, is a free safety from Augusta, Ga.
The Crusaders will be counting on Beatty, a redshirt junior, to produce this year.
Beatty said, “My goal is . . . to lead the team in tackles, become an all American at my position, lead in interceptions and also try to lead my team to the playoffs this year.
He also mentioned that his team goals for the upcoming year include being a complete team and advancing to the playoffs faster than they did last year.
Beatty originally wanted to attend North Greenville University for a football workout. “They took me on a tour of the school and I liked the facilities and how the classes were organized. They blessed me with a scholarship, so I chose to come to NGU.
About his plans after graduation, he mentioned that he wouuld loke to continue on to the next level and play in the NFL. “If that isnt the path the Lord has for me, then I will continue with my degree in sports management and try to make it in coaching or business and try to be a sports agent.
Beatty will be a key starter this upcoming season and will have to be a leader to a young defense. Beatty and a few others will likely be the key leaders for the NGU football team this season.
