The North Greenville University news media team, the Vision 48 News, is celebrating its recent first place award in the newscast category for the National Religious Broadcasters intercollegiate awards.

The Vision 48 team submitted a 13-minute package, which was its news coverage that aired on Vision 48 on Oct. 4, 2016, to NRB last fall. Quentin Gosselin served as producer, while Josefa Ventura worked as the news director. The broadcast was anchored by Clay Webb and Madison Styles, and featured pre-recorded reports from Christian Athey, Alyssa Ashe and Kirstin Martin.

The package covered many topics including a story about a North Greenville L.I.G.H.T. team’s missionary trip to India, an update on the NGU presidential search and other local news items, such as the forecast and sports.

Styles, a reporter for Vision 48, credits the two-day preparation she and Webb did as a major factor why the team won the award. “We spent those two days writing and re-writing to make it the best of the best,” said Styles.

She also gave credit to the news team for how well their team dynamic showed during the process. “Everybody worked together, and everybody pulled their own weight,” she said.

Clay Webb, who is the social media director for Vision 48, said the pressure of the competition served as a motivation to the crew to perform well. “We knew it was the one we were going to submit to that competition, so we tried a little bit harder,” said Webb. “We tried to be make it more professional than we usually do.”

Webb also mentioned how this award has given him and the Vision 48 team confidence as they move forward with future broadcasts. “When you enter for a competition, especially a national competition, it is definitely a confidence booster to win, and it lets you know you are doing it well.”
