When people hear the word “lesson”, they probably remember the desk they sat at in chemistry class, the homework they always managed to turn in at the last minute, the papers they wrote the night, late nights spent studying and their teachers and professors throughout the years. However, school teachers and college professors aren’t the only ones who teach important lessons.

For example, Hannah Miller, a sophomore elementary education major, said that the first lesson she remembers learning from her parents was not to lie.

“I was caught. . . goofing around with my brother when we were supposed to be napping and I told them I wasn’t goofing around but they knew I was,” Miller said. “I got reprimanded.”

Two other lessons Miller said she learned from her parents include always saying please and thank you and to not use the Lord’s name in vain.

Sophomore elementary education major Sarah Carlson also said she learned some important lessons from her parents.

“My dad has taught me that happiness is not the absence of depth, and you can be funny and humorous but also serious and appreciate deep things in life. My mom has taught me that gentleness is also strength.”

Carlson said that her parents have also taught her what it is like to be both a Christian man and Christian women in a relationship.
