Humans of NGU: John Bell
Hunter Merck, Staff Writer
For North Greenville junior, John Bell, he lives in a world of trying new things.
“I like to teach myself how to do things like how to play an instrument or how to build something,” said Bell.
Bell likes to get outside of his regular comfort zone. He likes to spend time outside, doing things, learning things and investing his time in people. Bell is a junior math major. He likes math because it allows him to have a better understanding of the order of the universe. He always wants to learn more about math and numbers, while learning more about the world we live in.
One summer, he took a trip across the country and spent about a month away from home. Bell flew to Los Angeles, and then flew two more times. He also hiked, biked and took buses to various other locations around the country including places like Northern California, Texas and Colorado.
He got to meet new people and experience new things. For example, he got to cliff dive in Texas and went biking on the Golden Gate Bridge. He said he also saw someone save someone else’s life. Bell said that while on his trip, he learned that travel is not what everyone makes it out to be and that you have to go at it with a purpose.
“I got to meet and pray with a Haitian woman on a bus outside of Denver,” said Bell. He spoke about this experience as his favorite part of his trip. “She was going through something, I don’t remember, but she prayed for me and my travels and we just talked for a while.”
He also enjoys spending time outside. Bell likes rock climbing, camping, hiking and biking.
