For some North Greenville student-athletes, this year will be the final curtain call. An athlete playing his or her last season has a feeling that only can be described as ‘bitter-sweet.’ For senior football player RoChar Witherspoon, the 5’8 , 160 pound cornerback from Manning, S.C. looks to set the bar high for his final season at NGU.

Witherspoon has made a an immediate impact to the Crusaders’ defense since his arrival to NGU as a true freshman. In the past three seasons he has held down the corner position, starting in over 33 games, racking up 70 tackles along with three interceptions.

On playing his last year Witherspoon has two main goals in hindsight; a personal goal that he is looking to capture is the title as All-American, the highest honor as an athlete. His biggest goal for himself and the team is to ultimately win it and to be crowned DII National Championship — a chance to play in the playoffs and win the whole thing.

Witherspoon said he is excited to play his senior year, but is also trying to enjoy the moment as each moment goes by so fast. On his time at North Greenville, he said, “It went by fast.  It seems like yesterday I was just a freshman.  I met some great people here and some have became family.”

For what’s next for Witherspoon after he leaves NGU, he would like to purse a career in football at the professional level. With his degree in Sport Management he would one day like to open up his own sports training complex, Witherspoon said that he has something to teach the future generation of football players.

“I appreciate the opportunity North Greenville gave me to play college football,” he said.
