Despite the many benefits, Cross-fit could potentially be dangerous for the immune system, studies show.
The Daily Mail published the results of a study that shows participating in Cross-fit two days in a row could be diminishing to the immune system. Due to lack of rest days, athletes are putting stress on their bodies and causing fatigue.
Cross-fit is a type of exercise that specializes in quick movements, and moving from one activity to another with little to no rest time. There are plenty of benefits, including muscle strength, cardiovascular fitness and improved body composition.
The study tested athletes who had been involved in cross-fit for at least six months and found that little rest causes a decrease of white blood cells. White blood cells are important for defending against illnesses.
Health also published the results of this study. In addition to the death of white blood cells, it also showed reduced levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines.
Health and wellness student, Sarah Flook, works out six days a week said, I always take off either Saturday or Sunday, at least one day a week. Flook herself has never tried cross-fit, but has tried similar activities and liked different aspects of it. Despite how active she is, she thinks it is important to include rest days in her regular work-out routine.
