Between Sept. 22 and Oct. 1, NGU’s theatre will be running “Nora’s House,” an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s play “A Doll’s House.”

Dale Savidge, NGU theatre professor and director, has been working on this experimental take on Ibsen’s play.

“I wanted to create an experimental play with which our students could expand their techniques in adapting literature, acting and design,” Savidge said. “I wanted a play which would speak to women who have struggled in their lives with abuse and neglect.”

Savidge said that the cast members include Rebekah Kingston, Austin Smith, Leah Meahl and Jonny Sieberhagen.

“I am excited to discover what this amazing team of artists has created,” Amy Dunlap, chair of NGU’s theatre department, said. “They are approaching . . . [the play] with a thoroughly contemporary world view, and bringing it to life in a way that today’s audience can relate to in an immediate and visceral way.”

The main theme of Nora’s House is that no matter our circumstances, we can choose how to live our lives, Savidge said.

“This piece will be different from anything we’ve attempted before in the Billingsley Theatre, and I strongly encourage the NGU community to come out [to] experience theatre in a whole new way,” Dunlap said. “[The audience] will absolutely leave with something new to talk about.”
