ROTC (Reserved Officer Training Corps) will move from the “dungeons” of Brissee to the updated office space of Runion this fall.

The development started in the spring of 2016 when Lieutenant Colonel Gregory Screvens, Sergeant First Class Trey Anthony and administrative assistant Lynn McCauley petitioned that the old bank located at Runion become the new office and recruitment center for ROTC.

“This has come after several meetings with their [North Greenville University’s] admissions staff  to establish a bigger presence for ROTC at North Greenville University,” said Anthony.

McCauley was directly approached by NGU Interim President Randall Pannell and was told that the bank that had formerly occupied Reunion was no longer there and that the space could potentially be used by ROTC.

ROTC had been requesting to have a space of its own located on campus for several years in order to engage and recruit students in to the program.

“North Greenville provides a substantial amount of students as cadets in our program. We think that they are numerous others on campus that simply don’t know about us or how to find us,” said Anthony.

The benefits of moving buildings for the program is for mentoring current and future cadets, having a NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) or Officer present on the campus and having a place where cadets can study and make plans for upcoming events within the program.

McCauley said, “That’s why we are so excited about it. That we have a place. There is a place where we can be there to do activities with our cadets as well as invite the student body to learn more about ROTC.”

The building is expected to be complete in October 2016 and with it bringing a sense of belonging to the program.

Scrivens said, “I think the best thing this building is going to bring is it’s going to bring present and previous cadets of North Greenville a sense of ownership in the program and history tied into North Greenville.”
