Humans of NGU: The One and Only Lance Moore
Alex Forster, Associate Writer
Lance Moore is one of the most well-known students on the campus of North Greenville University. His unique and energetic personality leaves a lasting impression on everyone that meets him. If you have ever been in the caf and heard someone yelling, it was most likely Moore.
Moore was born and raised in Blacksburg, S.C., near Gaffney. He began playing football when he was in second grade and has loved the sport ever since; however, his football career has not been a smooth ride.
When he was in 10th grade, Moore ran into seemingly career-ending difficulties.
“I injured my back and chest, but no doctor could figure out what was wrong with me,” said Moore. “They told me if I wanted to have more intensive checks done, I would have to go visit doctors in New York.”
“I thought I was never going to play football again,” Moore added. “Then my little brother tried out for the football team, so of course I had to go for it too. I made the team, and I had a great senior year.”
Moore gained 30 pounds the summer after his senior year and is now a running back for the NGU Crusaders.
Aside from football, weightlifting has always been a very important thing to Moore.
In the fifth grade, when Moore would get bullied, he would use lifting as an escape.
“Nobody could bully me when I was lifting,” he said. “My dad got me started. I would lift in my basement for hours a day.”
“I used to be shy when it came to working out with other people, because I was used to lifting by myself,” Moore added. “When you work out with other people your ego can get in the way. When you are alone, it’s just you versus yourself.”
Moore’s favorite food is pizza and his favorite TV show is “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.” A fun fact is that Moore’s uncle played in the 1969 World Series.
