A dream is nothing without a Vision: Farewell from the EIC

Abbi Webb, Editor-in-Cheif

As a senior in college, saying goodbye is truly bittersweet. While I am beyond excited to close this chapter in my life and begin a brand new adventure, there are things I will certainly miss about my college experience. At the top of that list is my time spent with The Vision Online.

I have served on staff with The Vision since my sophomore year and have enjoyed every minute of it. As editor-in-chief of this fine publication, I have learned that there is so much more to working in a newsroom setting than meets the eye. It takes a lot of hard work and effort, but the end result is so rewarding.

Throughout my time with The Vision, I have realized that there are so many valuable skills to be learned within a journalistic setting. Whether it is graphic arts, research, time management or oral communication, there is so much more to being a reporter than just writing well. The Vision has refined my writing skills, my analytical skills, my creative skills and my communication skills, and for that I am so grateful.

Aside from being an excellent source of personal and professional development, The Vision Online has given me community. Before joining the staff, I felt out of place at school — a feeling of disjointedness and a longing to be a part of something. When I found The Vision, I found my niche. I found people who shared in my passion and later became some of my closet friends.

I also found encouragement, mainly from my adviser, Karyn Campbell, who taught me to always push for excellence and originality. Campbell saw in me what I couldnt see in myself: potential. With her help and the help of my staff, I have confidence to move forward into the field of print media without hesitation.

But, no matter where I end up, I will always remember what got me there. My advice is to never stop dreaming; never stop pushing yourself to be better in whatever field you are passionate about. If you dont see your potential, someone else will, and they will inspire you to dream even bigger. Remember, a dream is nothing without a VISION.
