Humans of NGU: The Caped Crusader
Devin Kilgore, Contributing Writer
In most schools, you have nerds, the ones obsessed with superheroes and video games. Then you have your jocks. Sports are their lives and nothing is going to change that. Nerds and jocks are completely different; however, there is the occasional exception.

Meet Caleb Gunter, a Junior Social Studies Education major at North Greenville University. A lover of basketball and superheroes, he really is the best of both worlds.

Gunter began playing basketball when he was 7 years old, and his love for the game just kept growing. While in high school, Gunter didnt only play basketball; he also recorded some of the games for the coaches.

I would set up a little camera in the stands, and just track where the ball and players were going. But with me filming the games, I started spending a lot of time with the coaches, and I decided that I wanted to coach basketball too, said Gunter.

Using his experiences of playing and coaching basketball, Gunter started a summer camp through his church called Piedmont Basketball Camp. The camp is free, and offers a fun, safe environment where kids can play basketball no matter what their talent or skill level might be.

When Gunter isnt coaching basketball, studying for his history tests or watching his favorite YouTube show Good Mythical Morning, he is being mistaken for the dark knight, Batman.

Well I dont exactly get mistaken for Batman here on campus or really anywhere, Gunter explained. One day my church was having a service day in a nearby neighborhood. A little kid ran up to me, and asked why I was wearing a batman shirt. I looked him straight in the eyes and said because I AM Batman. The kid stood there for a good five seconds before darting away and all I could do was laugh. I told my parents about it, and they thought it was the funniest thing that ever happened. So since then, the majority of my birthday or Christmas presents have been Batman related.

Gunter hopes to take his knowledge of sports, superheroes and history to his classroom when he becomes a teacher and a basketball coach after he graduates.
