North Greenville students get networking opportunity at upcoming symposium

Secular businessmen are not the only ones who enjoy success. As businessmen William Renfrow, Donald Wilson and Peter Freissle demonstrate, you can have a successful business while glorifying God.
On April 21, 2016 in Turner Chapel at North Greenville University, these speakers will share with students and other attendees how they can serve the Lord with their businesses and still be extremely successful, said Jeff Briggs, chair of the Sport Management Department at NGU.
“We want our students to be able to see firsthand that they can operate a business for Christ and be successful by marketplace standards,” Briggs said.
Not only will NGU students be attending, but also NGU faulty and staff along with local business professionals, giving students a chance for networking, said Briggs.
While business students are the main concern, he said, the symposium will also be beneficial for other students. For example, communication students can connect with any media groups, such as radio stations or advertising groups represented.
Briggs said that two networking breaks will be offered.
Stuart Floyd, career planning coordinator at NGU, said that it will be a great opportunity to meet possible future employers and make a good impression.
Floyd said that it will be best to wear something nice, to practice introducing yourself before the symposium and to start with open-ended questions, such as asking them to tell you more about their company or describe what a certain position would look like at their business.
However, providing students a networking opportunity is not the only goal of the symposium, Briggs said.
“We are hoping we can open additional doors for new partnerships for the business school [and] new opportunities for the University with local business. . .In the end we just want to serve the Lord doing this while providing for our students” Briggs said.
Briggs said the College of Business and Sport Professions would like to see this event develop into an annual occurrence with a full day of activities and speakers.
