New student-led group meets weekly to pray over current events

A new ministry has been started by a North Greenville University student.

Jon Kesey is a sophomore intercultural studies major who pioneered the PRAY Initiative. Last Tuesday, the group held its first meeting in the Fero Conference Room next to the BSU offices. With the assistance of BSU pastor, Jody Jennings, Kesey has created an environment where prayer is the primary focus.

“We figure out topics to pray about each week,” said Kesey. “These topics range from the persecuted church to current events.”

For example, students involved in the PRAY Initiative last Tuesday spent time praying for the victims of terrorist attacks, particularly those in Belgium. Kesey was inspired to create these evenings of prayer when he was attending the GO Conference in the summer of 2015.

“David Platt was speaking. He said, ‘Prayer is the currency of God’s economy.’ That really resonated with me because I’ve always had a passion for missions,” said Kesey.

Kesey believes that the PRAY Initiative is unique because it provides an outlet for North Greenville students to focus on their prayer life.

Anyone is welcome to attend these events which take place every Tuesday night from 7-7:30 p.m.
