Hot Yoga: The Ultimate Detox
Gabrielle Fanelli, Staff Writer
Yoga is now a popular exercise practiced by people all over the world. Living a busy and active life requires some time spent on you. What could be better then the feeling of your tight, sore muscles releasing and easing as you flow into downward dog?
There actually is another form of yoga out there that releases stress and tension, but gives you even more benefits. Hot yoga involves the same vinyasa flow as normal yoga, but it is done in hot, humid temperatures.
Hot yoga classes at Southern Om in Greenville begin at about 85 degrees and gradually reach 102 degrees. While losing so much sweat sounds dangerous, hot yoga is actually an amazing way to detox your body by releasing fluids while you sweat.
Hot yoga also focuses on better breathing and mental concentration. What better way to treat yourself after a stressful week of classes?
If you plan on attending a hot yoga class, remember these three things:
1) Hydrate ALL day to prep for the fluids you will lose
2) Be sure to wear loose, thin clothing
3) Bring a towel and water for during your session
If you are interested in trying a hot yoga class, Southern Om offers a Friday night special for $5. Class begins at 6:45 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Be sure to get there at least 20 minutes prior due to the high demand of the class. You can rent a yoga mat at the front desk for $5.
After class, rinse off and refresh with complimentary shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in one of the showers found in the changing rooms.
