Welcome the newest club to North Greenville University — Gamers of the Round Table

North Greenville University students Robzy Bolin, Mitchell McDaniel, Samuel Maycock and Michael Miller have joined together to form NGU’s newest club, Gamers of the Round Table.
This is no ordinary group.
“[The club] is not bound by any one group,” Maycock said. “For example, I’m a biology major but we have accounting majors and health and wellness majors that wouldn’t usually come together except for we have this common ground.”
The club is open to all NGU students.
Bolin explained the purpose of the club is, “To bring fellowship here to NGU with people with common interests.”
Maycock added, “Currently at North Greenville, there isn’t really many options for having [a club] like this.”

Gamers of the Round Table was formed when Bolin and McDaniel brought the idea up during a game of “Magic the Gathering” with Maycock and Miller. Bolin and McDaniel came up with the idea while playing “Magic” in Greenville with bunch of guys who stated their old high school had a club that played the game.
“Me and Mitchell were like, ‘Dude, we should start a ‘Magic’ club,’” Bolin said. “Then we were like, ‘Why stop at ‘Magic;’ why not extend it into other games?’”
Assistant director for student life, Jared Thomas, men’s resident coordinator, Dillon Key and director of student leadership, Jamie Daughtry, were the key elements in getting the club rolling. Bolin, McDaniel, Maycock and Miller filled out a form to give to the director of Student Activities, Whitney Simms, for approval and that was all.
The last elements needed for the club was a name and officers. Bolin was nominated president, McDaniel became vice president, Maycock took on secretary and Miller filled the position of treasurer.
Gamers of the Round Table became the name of the club by influence of Thomas.
Maycock stated the goal of the club is to, “Schedule regular events for the college to participate or whoever in the college wants to participate in.”
Bolin added, “It’d be ideal to get something that’s almost in concrete that’s always going on. [Like] every three weeks we all meet up.”

Some of the games Gamers of the Round Table play are Magic the Gathering, Super Smash Brothers, Super Mario Brothers, Risk: The Game of Strategic Conquest, Cards Against Humanity, League of Legends, Dungeons and Dragons and Apples to Apples. The club looks for games that involve a big community.
In the future, Gamers of the Round Table plans to have tournaments to involve bigger crowds.
“Jared’s talked to IT about future events and wants to start a ‘Counterstrike’ Tournament. We’ll be promoting for it,” Bolin stated.
“We are open to ideas,” Maycock said.
By ideas, Maycock means the Gamers of the Round Table are interested in trying new games and creating tournaments for “Halo” and other system games.

According to Maycock, the officers of the Gamers of the Round Table are planning for a “Smash Brother’s” tournament before Spring Break. The club is aiming to host the tournament March 1 between 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the Joyful Sound Conference Room.
Lastly, Maycock added, “All our activities aren’t for our group alone, it’s open to all of NGU.”
