Breakout Games: Escape scenario games come to Greenville

The clock is ticking. People are shouting. The pressure is building because you’ve got one more puzzle to solve before you can escape the room.
This is the thrill participants will experience when they get involved in Breakout Games. The phenomenon has announced they will be opening up a Greenville location on March 15, 2016.
According to their Facebook page, the Greenville Breakout Games will be located at 614 N. Main St.
The objective of the games is to escape a room in one hour. In order to accomplish this, participants must solve clues, crack codes and find hidden items, according to the Breakout Games website.
With locations in 10 cities across the southeast, thousands of people have experienced this adventure.
The website states that there are four different types of scenarios participants can choose from. There is a kidnapping adventure in which the group has been “kidnapped” and is pressed to uncover clues and escape before the kidnapper returns.
In the museum heist scenario, teams must uncover clues to recover artifacts stolen before the opening of a museum.
For those who enjoy James Bond, the Casino Royale game may be tempting. In this room, participants must find a missing MI6 agent in a casino by uncovering clues the agent left behind.
The last scenario to be offered at the Greenville location is the Island Escape. Teams find themselves on a deserted island and must rush to find the keys to the only boat left, all before lava from an erupting volcano reaches them.
Ashleigh Fowler experienced the Breakout Games in Birmingham and shares what she encountered.
“I was a little bit apprehensive about going at first. It sounded kind of lame to me, but it was nothing like I expected!” said Fowler.
The team she went with chose the Kidnapping adventure and she sheds light on what that entailed.
“Before we entered the room, the game coordinator gave us a run down of what it was going to be like,” Fowler said. “After that, we were blindfolded and handcuffed and he led us one by one into the room and chained us to a bed. Once the game started, we had one hour to break out of the room before our ‘kidnapper’ came back.”
Fowler explained what the room looked like as their adventure began.
“We immediately took off our blindfolds and began looking for a key to get out of the handcuffs. The room looked like a dark cellar and it was very small. There were a few safes and locked chests on the floor, as well as built into the walls,” Fowler said.
When the game began, Fowler explains that the excitement in the room began to build.
“Once you find the first clue, the game starts to fly by. You have to figure out lots of codes and there’s also riddles! Once we made it under the 10 minute mark, I didn’t think we were going to make it out of the room, but we ended up making it out with a little over eight minutes left in the game,” said Fowler.
Even though she was apprehensive at first, Ashleigh encourages others to partake in this adventure.
“I really enjoyed it because I’ve never done anything like it before! It’s interesting to see how everyone responds to being in that situation. My friends and I had a ton of fun and we’re already planning our next trip. I would highly recommend it to anyone!” said Fowler.
